Formed in Medellín, Colombia, in 2002, Revenge have spent nearly twenty-five years flying the flag for classic speed and heavy metal. Across ten studio albums, international tours, and a longstanding commitment to the underground, the band have become one of the leading names in Colombia’s traditional metal scene.
With the release of “Night Danger” and their first European tour on the horizon, we caught up with Revenge to discuss their beginnings, the evolution of the Colombian metal scene, key moments in their career, and what continues to drive the band forward after more than two decades.
TheNwothm: Revenge was formed in Medellín in 2002. Can you take us back to the beginning and tell us how the band came together?
Revenge: Hello everyone, thanks for this space. It’s true—the band was formed in 2002 in the city of Medellín. We started getting together with some friends and developing the concept; originally, we intended to form a black/thrash metal band, but later decided to play speed/heavy metal instead.
TheNwothm: For readers who may be discovering Revenge for the first time, how would you describe the band and what you are all about?
Revenge: Revenge is a speed/heavy metal band very much in the style of 1980s European bands—our greatest influences. For years, we have been considered pioneers of the genre in our country. We have remained true to this style throughout an uninterrupted 24-year career, with 10 studio albums released to date. Our approach is to preserve the classic sounds of metal, staying faithful to the genre in both its musical and lyrical aspects.
TheNwothm: What was the metal scene like in Medellín when Revenge first started, and how has it changed over the years?
Revenge: The metal scene in Medellín—and in Colombia as a whole—has always been intense, radical, and deeply committed to the movement. While the city gained recognition during the 80s and 90s primarily for its death metal, black metal, and—to a lesser extent—thrash metal bands, there has been a growing emergence of classic heavy metal and speed metal acts over the years. This represents one of the most significant shifts in recent times, alongside the arrival of major events, the development of more concert venues, and the emergence of various promoters who believe in the genre and create more opportunities for bands to perform and showcase their material.
TheNwothm: How important is your Colombian identity to Revenge, and does where you come from influence the band’s music or outlook?
Revenge: While our primary influence has been 1980s classic metal—particularly from Europe—we have strived to develop a distinctive sound, one also shaped by the Colombian bands we began listening to during our adolescence. We may have incorporated certain dark sonic elements and lyrical themes directly from Colombian “ultra metal” bands; however, we do not integrate traditional, distinctly Colombian cultural elements into our music.
TheNwothm: Looking across your discography, are there any releases you feel were particularly important in the band’s development, and if so, what makes them stand out to you?
Revenge: I believe it was the 2009 album “Death Sentence” that allowed us to more firmly establish our speed/heavy metal style. It was an album that brought us recognition in many places and also marked the beginning of our partnership with the Greek label Floga Records, who went on to release a couple more of our records in the years that followed. With this album, we also began commissioning original artwork from Colombian artists—moving away from the practice of simply modifying existing images for our covers—which helped the album make a strong impact on the Colombian underground scene, as well as in several other countries.
TheNwothm: How do you feel the band’s songwriting and sound have evolved since your early releases?
Revenge: We have maintained the same thematic direction in our lyrics, while also developing greater depth, depending on the specific subject matter of each album. In a sense, we have also evolved in our writing and our grasp of the English language—which is not our native tongue. On our earlier records, we struggled significantly with grammar and pronunciation; while we still aren’t perfect, we have made substantial progress.
TheNwothm: Were there any moments, releases or events that had a significant impact on the direction of Revenge?
Revenge: Certainly; over the course of 24 years, we’ve had many stories, experiences, and so on—though some have been particularly significant. Our 2013 tour through Argentina and Paraguay was a major milestone, opening up many opportunities for us in that region. Performing at large-scale events in Colombia has also been significant for the band. Another key moment was our participation in the “70,000 Tons of Metal” cruise in the U.S., where we had the chance to share the stage with some of the most prominent bands in the world in 2018—an event of great importance for Revenge.

TheNwothm: With such an extensive catalogue behind you, what keeps the writing process exciting and interesting today?
Revenge: It may well be a combination of many factors; regardless, it still feels the same way—it’s exciting and motivating to keep coming up with lyrical and sonic ideas that spark new ways of thinking. I also believe that the support we receive from fans worldwide helps that motivation grow and stay alive, especially since our records sell out very quickly whenever we release new albums. It is truly a privilege and a stroke of good fortune to be able to sustain this feeling within our music—all the more so given the genre that keeps us going.
TheNwothm: Your latest full-length release is “Night Danger”. What can you tell us about the album and the ideas that shaped it?
Revenge: Our new album came about just as we noticed that copies of our previous album were starting to run out. We all got together to brainstorm ideas for this record—covering everything from lyrics and music to our overall image. We managed to gather all these ideas and bring some structure to the project; the music was composed by the entire band, and we approached the process in a much more organized way. When it came time to record, we achieved the sound we were aiming for, and we were also able to secure a Colombian CD release. Later, we signed a deal with our European label—a very fitting arrangement—and we remain extremely happy that we were able to make it happen.
TheNwothm: How do audiences in Colombia compare with audiences in other countries you’ve played or connected with?
Revenge: Oh, yes—we’ve crossed paths and gotten to know many bands that we’ve played alongside at events in Colombia and other countries. For instance, we’ve performed with bands such as Kreator, Primal Fear, Sepultura, Destruction, Exciter, Metal Church, Onslaught, and Venom, among others.
TheNwothm: What continues to inspire Revenge creatively after more than two decades of activity?
Revenge: We want to keep the underground scene alive in any way we can. We are very interested in sharing our music with people around the world who enjoy the same things, while also discovering many bands—both in our own country and abroad—from whom we can learn and whose new creative approaches we can explore. All of this helps us stay relevant and motivates us to keep making music. Furthermore, we have many followers who are always looking forward to new material from the band; that support is what enables us to keep creating, day after day.
TheNwothm: What touring plans do you have for the rest of 2026 and 2027?
Revenge: During the second half of 2026, we have been performing across much of Colombia at numerous events. In April 2027, we will embark on our first European tour—an endeavor we’ve envisioned for over a decade, but which previously hadn’t been feasible due to time and logistical constraints. Now, with the support of our new label, Dying Victims Prod., this vision has become a reality, allowing us to carry out our touring and promotional plans for our most recent album.
TheNwothm: Are there any new releases, live plans or other projects currently in the works that you can share with our readers?
Revenge: For now, we are working to ensure our first European tour is a success and that our material remains in distribution throughout the tour dates. It is worth mentioning that we have previously worked with the German label Iron Shield Records, which also has a significant amount of material available that we will be able to offer at these events in Europe. We will be performing at our label’s festival, Dying Victims Vol. 5, as well as at Keep It True 2027, among other dates.
TheNwothm: Finally, what message would you like to leave for NWOTHM readers around the world?
To all the Metal Maniacs out there: keep the underground alive, support the bands you believe in, buy their records, hit the gigs, and stand by your scene. Real metal has never been about trends, hype, or following the crowd—it’s about passion, loyalty, and living this shit for real.
We come from Medellín, Colombia, and after 24 years we’re still here, playing loud and keeping the speed/heavy metal flame burning. In April 2027, we’re bringing Revenge to Europe for the first time, so get ready to raise hell with us! We Will make a 25 years anniversary with this tour.
Thanks to everyone who has supported the band and the underground over the years. Stay wild, stay loud!
