The Night Eternal Announce “Cold Velvet”

German melancholic heavy metal force THE NIGHT ETERNAL will unveil their long‑awaited Metal Blade debut, “Cold Velvet”, on the 21st of August 2026. Since forming in 2018, the Essen‑based quintet have steadily carved out a formidable reputation, channelling the guitar‑driven energy of the ’70s and ’80s through a darker, more sinister lens. Their acclaimed full‑lengths “Moonlit Cross” (2021) and “Fatale” (2023) earned widespread praise, leading to support tours with Blind Guardian, Michael Schenker Group, Angel Witch, and Lucifer, alongside major festival appearances at Wacken, Summer Breeze, Hellfest, Alcatraz, and a coveted slot at Houston’s Hell’s Heroes.

With “Cold Velvet”, the band sharpen their identity into something unmistakably their own. The record fuses darkness, dreamlike unease, and deep melancholy with a dramatic heavy metal rock ’n’ roll pulse. Hypnotic, ritualistic rhythms, mesmeric guitar lines, and soaring, addictive choruses run throughout, pulling the listener into a trance‑like state and releasing a surge of shadowy energy.

As the band remarks:

With this album we set out to open a new musical chapter in the story of THE NIGHT ETERNAL. Each song stands strong on its own, yet together they form a cohesive narrative – unfolding through rising tension, shifting atmospheres, and unexpected twists and turns that guide the listener from beginning to end.

Conceived as a conceptual bridge from “Fatale”, the album allowed the group to evolve naturally, explore new atmospheres, and refine their sound into something fully realised. The result is not merely progression, but a bold declaration of identity: this is The Night Eternal.

Lead single “Where This World Ends” out now

Ahead of the album’s release, the band present the first single, “Where This World Ends”.

The band explains,

This track gets straight to the core of what THE NIGHT ETERNAL stands for. Dramatic, dark riffing is paired with haunting vocal melodies that linger long after the final note. While the track forms a seamless bridge between the band’s previous work and the present, it also introduces new sonic elements, including subtle synth‑guitar textures inspired by Iron Maiden’s ‘Somewhere in Time’, woven discreetly into the background.

Recording & production

“Cold Velvet” was recorded between May and December 2025 at Church Of Sound Studios in the greater Munich area. Production, recording, and mixing were handled by Michael Zech, known for his work with Secrets Of The Moon, Sulphur Aeon, Triptykon, and The Ruins Of Beverast.

Endorsements

Johanna Sadonis (Lucifer):

“With their new record, THE NIGHT ETERNAL cements even further, why they are the rightful defenders of the New Wave of German Heavy Metal and a staple of contemporary brutal night time rocking. Who let the bats out?!”

S. Castevet (Vulture):

“If THE NIGHT ETERNAL have played Champions League with ‘Fatale’, ‘Cold Velvet’ secures them a safe spot in the play offs right away. Huge songs, huge sound and maybe one of the best vocalists our generation has to offer. THE NIGHT ETERNAL is the next big thing!”
