Throw Back Thursday: Evo (Spain)

EVO formed in the El Clot district of Barcelona in January 1981, becoming one of the earliest heavy metal bands in Catalonia. The first recognised lineup featured Carmen García on vocals, Richard on guitar, Pedro Bruque on bass and Ramón Solà on drums, shaping a sound rooted in classic heavy metal with a later push toward speed and thrash.

In 1983 they signed with EMI and recorded the album “Animal de Ciudad” in London, a release that placed them firmly within the rising Spanish metal wave. Their second album “Duración de lo Eterno” arrived in 1985 with a more developed musical direction, and their appearance on the “Hot Metal” compilation in 1984 marked a rare international crossover for a Spanish band of the era.

After several inactive periods and later revivals, EVO returned once more in 2022 when Richard, Zippy and Ramón Solà reactivated the band with vocalist César AQuemaRopa and guitarist Pol. Now active in 2026, they continue performing as the “auténtico Animal de Ciudad” and are preparing a new album expected this year.
