IRON KINGDOM Unleash “Blood and Steel” Ahead of New Album “Shadows and Dust” – Out on the 6th of June 2026 via Steel Shark Records
Vancouver’s traditional heavy metal standard‑bearers Iron Kingdom return with their latest single “Blood and Steel”, taken from their forthcoming sixth studio album “Shadows and Dust”, which lands on the 6th of June 2026 through Steel Shark Records. The release marks the band’s first partnership with the French label, who will issue an exclusive EU double‑CD edition limited to 300 copies. Disc One features the full “Shadows and Dust” album, while Disc Two presents a curated “Best Of” collection drawn from the band’s previous five releases. A third vinyl colour, limited to 100 copies, will also be available exclusively to European fans.
Following the strong response to the lead single “Defenders”, the new track delves deeper into the album’s themes of endurance, sacrifice, and the human cost of ambition. Its accompanying lyric video expands the record’s narrative world, drawing listeners into the stark emotional landscape that defines “Shadows and Dust”.
Bassist Leighton Holmes explains the inspiration behind the track:
“The idea for ‘Blood and Steel’ came partly from Steven Erikson’s Malazan Book of the Fallen, and partly from imagining life as a soldier in Alexander the Great’s army after more than a decade on campaign. The marching, the battles, the exhaustion… it’s a brutal existence. In a small way, it mirrors the blood, sweat, and tears that go into touring.”
Vocalist and guitarist Chris Osterman adds:
“We wanted the track to feel like a march. The verses lean heavily on bass and drums, with guitars placed deliberately for impact. It’s a different flavour for us, and I think it’s going to bring something powerful to the live set.”
A Darker, More Reflective Chapter
“Shadows and Dust” stands as Iron Kingdom’s most emotionally charged and thematically intense album to date. Across ten tracks, the band explore mortality, hardship, impermanence, and the resilience required to push through life’s most difficult moments. The cover art, inspired directly by “Blood and Steel”, depicts an army crossing a desolate landscape, echoing the album’s focus on struggle and perseverance.
Osterman reflects:
“This record sits in a darker space, but that’s what makes it relatable. It acknowledges the weight people carry, while still offering a sense of hope. It’s a journey we’re excited for fans to experience from start to finish.”
