Epic heavy metal collective Smoulder will release their third studio album, “Witch Wife in an Alien World”, on October the 9th, 2026 through Cruz Del Sur Music. The record stands as the band’s most politically charged and narratively ambitious work to date, reflecting what they describe as “our fractured post‑capitalist hellscape that prioritises profit over life and has successfully pitted the working class against itself.”
The lyric video for the opening track “Water Wars” is out now, directed by Annick Giroux with animations by vocalist Sarah Ann. Preorders are available at smoulder.bandcamp.com, with physical editions shipping from both the United States and Europe to improve availability and reduce additional taxes.
A Vision of Alien Worlds and Burning Sagas
Witch Wife in an Alien World” continues Smoulder’s tradition of weaving high fantasy, sword‑and‑sorcery imagery, and tragic epic narratives into their heavy metal foundation. The album’s cover artwork is created by the indomitable Ian Miller, whose distinctive style amplifies the record’s themes of alien battlements, mystic forces, and doomed heroism.
Smoulder describe the album’s atmosphere as one where “epic blackened power doom soars alongside the haunted battle cry of a mystic swamp hag,” with each tale drawn from forgotten sagas and rendered in vivid, burning detail.

About Smoulder
Smoulder are an epic heavy metal band now based in Finland, where the group’s core members have relocated after years of operating as an international collective. Formed in Canada in 2013, the band built its reputation through cross‑border collaboration and a strong community ethos, working closely with musicians from groups such as Midnight Dice, Fer de Lance, Possessed Steel, Ranger and Emissary. Their move to Finland marks a new chapter of tighter creative focus and more consistent studio work.
Drawing inspiration from Rainbow, Manilla Road, Bathory, Manowar, Omen, Fates Warning, Reverend Bizarre, Solitude Aeternus, Blind Guardian and Cirith Ungol, Smoulder blend epic storytelling, doom‑laden weight and sword‑and‑sorcery imagery. They continue to champion contemporary acts including Atlantean Kodex, Grendel’s Syster, Eternal Champion, Bergfried, Spell, Sonja, Riders of Rohan, Lord Vigo, Luzifer, Magister Templi, Cauchemar and Crescent Shield.
The band have achieved multiple represses of their debut “Times of Obscene Evil and Wild Daring” and EP “Dream Quest Ends”, performed in five countries, and headlined festivals such as Horns Up in Greece. Their Finnish era represents a more unified and powerful creative period, driven by myth, literature, art, history and the vivid worlds of fantasy.
