Coming from Philadelphia, PA, Breakker is a newer Heavy Metal band that was formed in 2023, and they are coming in hot and ready to keep the momentum going for the underground Heavy Metal resurgence! With their musical style combining the old and traditional sound of British Heavy Metal/ NWOBHM, and the strutted melodies and tones of American Glam metal. The band is: Clare Mairead on soaring vocals, Ben Bower on guitar, Jake Thomas on Lead Guitar, Steve Lang on Bass, and Lar TK on drums! The band has previously released “Time’s Not Gonna Wait” and “Fever” both as singles, including an EP titled “Breakker” all in the same year of 2024. The following year, the band released their last smashing single “Stick to Your Guns”. This year, The band has recently announced the release of their newest single titled “In The Wild” alongside a Blacklace cover of “Call of The Wild” featuring Carlo Fragnito, the band’s original guitarist.
Review
“In the Wild” full on embraces that traditional sound found in old school heavy metal bands, for example with the steel sounds of Judas Priest and Iron Maiden as an example. The song itself is very infectious, the harmonies and riffs that are showcased seriously give me that throwback feel, it is just like that perfect mesh of Dokken, Priest and even Lee Aaron; as Clare’s vocals are strong and powerful. I would definitely note that the vocals in this track are one of the highlights, reminds me of Lee Aaron’s potent vocals; absolutely loved it. As a person that always seems to notice the guitar work a lot, I truly was immediately hooked and sold on the impeccable riffs. Seriously dug the sound and melodies that were created here. The whole track in itself is great, it has a sturdy, consistent tempo and rebellious feel- it is commanding and I personally enjoyed the hell out of it!
“Call of The Wild” is actually a cover of the legendary, Blacklace’s “Call of The Wild”. BREAKKER did an absolutely amazing job with this cover, to tell you the truth. And the fact that Carlo Fragnito is a featured guest on this track is just ferociously awesome. It is just as energetic, heavy and comes with a high energy impact for listeners. The original is hard hitting, but I believe that the band makes a great tribute to Blacklace with this cover, and it is clear that the band is doing what they love and fully embracing it. The whole band did a phenomenal job all throughout, the work on vocals, guitars, bass and the drumming; each and everyone played their part beautifully. I also did notice that even though it is a cover, you can still feel and hear the band’s own sound to it as well which I thought was absolutely rad.
Conclusion
“In the Wild” and it’s other single “Call of The Wild”, definitely left me wanting more from Breakker! The two tracks are just oozing with high power and energy that had me headbanging throughout. It is the kind of music that also lifted up my mood during the time I first listened to the tracks, especially the first song. I had also already checked the rest of the band’s previous releases before listening to these new singles and I just knew I would not be disappointed. The track “In the Wild” was excellent, it made me smile since it was an instant hook….need more of that! “Call of The Wild” was also an equally wonderful track/ cover to be included, I truly enjoyed both songs a lot. Another band added to my list of being on the look out for future new material!
