Chastain’s “The Voice of the Cult” Reissue Available Now via Nameless Grave Records. Nameless Grave Records has released a new edition of “The Voice of the Cult”, one of the landmark titles in the catalogue of American heavy metal band Chastain. Formed in 1984 and led by Cincinnati guitarist David T. Chastain, the group became a defining presence of the Shrapnel Records era, a period known for its technical ambition and neoclassical guitar virtuosity. While many acts of the time centred their identity on instrumental display, Chastain stood apart by pairing precision musicianship with strong songwriting and the early foundations of what would later be recognised as power metal.
A central force behind the band’s sound is vocalist Leather Leone. Her performance on “The Voice of the Cult” is widely regarded as one of the era’s standout vocal achievements. In a predominantly male scene, Leone established herself as one of metal’s most commanding voices, delivering a fierce yet melodic style that helped transform Chastain from a technical showcase into a genuine cult institution.
Originally released in 1988, “The Voice of the Cult” remains a high point in the band’s discography, with its title track enduring as a true heavy metal anthem. The new CD reissue features updated packaging and a 16‑page booklet containing liner notes by Sarah Kitteringham (Smoulder). To mark this as the definitive edition, the release also includes two bonus demo recordings, including one previously unreleased song making its first appearance for fans.
