Interview
TheNwothm: Can you introduce Asedio to those who may not have heard of you before?
A: Hello readers, this is Nicolás Y, Asedio vocalist, happy to be able to share and explain a little of our history as a band.
We are a Chilean band that plays classic heavy metal sung in Spanish, our native language, quite raw and fast at times, but sometimes subtle and melodic.
TheNwothm: What inspired the name “Asedio,” and what does it represent for the band?
A: The translation of “Asedio” is Siege, it represented what we wanted to deliver to the public, a hit of speed and aggression, direct lyrics without beating around the bush.
TheNwothm: How did Asedio come together as a band? What’s the story behind its formation in 2015?
A: Asedio began in 2015 out of a need to play classic heavy metal in a Chilean scene rife with extreme metal. It was specifically at a concert we attended with Lucas F. that we decided to form a project. We shared ideas and recorded a couple of songs, songs that never saw the light of day, but they helped us realize we could do things right and form a real band, not a two-person project. A couple of months later, we recorded four songs on our first demo as an already established band.
TheNwothm: What were some of the biggest challenges you faced in the early days of the band?
A: The hardest part was always the recordings, we were too young and had no experience, and a small budget, so self-production in those years was our first option, the sound was terrible but for us it was an unforgettable experience but of course if we could go back in time we would do things better, it’s strange since the people who have followed us over the years love those first recordings.
TheNwothm: Were there any particular bands or musicians that influenced your sound and style?
A: All the members of the band are music lovers and enjoy many styles of music in general, with progressive rock from the 70s probably being our most frequent classic meeting point, however heavy metal references are mainly the Spanish wave Baron Rojo, Muro, French ones like Sortilége, Der Kaiser, perhaps also the speed of Agent Steel and of course the great Iron Maiden.
TheNwothm: What first got you into music, and when did you realise you wanted to be a musician?
A: There was always an acoustic guitar hanging on the wall in my house. I learned to play a couple of songs probably when I was 10, but it wasn’t until I was a teenager that I really became interested in the technicalities of metal. But the desire to do it for life came from listening to real live bands that made the audience vibrate with their songs.
TheNwothm: Being based in Limache, Valparaíso, how has the local metal scene influenced your music?
A: The Chilean underground metal scene is quite broad. I’d venture to say that almost every weekend there are concerts by emerging bands and other established ones, but extreme genres have always predominated. Speed has always been present in our music, that’s why you sometimes hear a bit of thrash in our songs. We’re often told this.
TheNwothm: What’s the metal scene like in Chile? Are there any bands you’d recommend from the region?
A: In Chile we have a wide variety of bands that are active, but I will mention a few that have recently caught my attention: Blood Oath, Mental Devastation, Dictator, Solipnosis.
TheNwothm: Your first demo, Demo 2016, was your introduction to the world. Looking back, how do you feel about that release?
A: I truly remember it with nostalgia, like an old photograph of ourselves. Although our new songs are more complex in composition, we will try to never stray too far from that precise energy.
TheNwothm: In 2016, you also released En Vivo as part of a split. How did that come about?
A: During those years we performed with a band called Hemisferio, we got along quite well, and the show was recorded so we decided to include 3 songs in a two side Tape, currently we are still friends with the drummer of that band Cristian, who is about to release his first full length with his band “Armoured Knight”
TheNwothm: What’s the dynamic like between you as a band—do you have specific strengths that each member brings to the table?
A: There is creative freedom in all aspects of the band, we all contribute ideas in the songs creations, I am also lucky to be playing with musicians with extensive and experienced careers so the music flows by itself.
TheNwothm: What’s something about you that fans might be surprised to learn?
A: I was looking for a vocalist for the band for a whole year. I just wanted to play guitar, but when I recorded demos with my voice it sounded better and better, so I decided to dedicate myself 100% to singing.
TheNwothm: What were the main themes or messages behind Prisión del Temor?
A: Liberation from mental ties, all the songs on that demo contain lyrics that give you a burst of energy, overcoming and rebelling against the norms imposed by society.

TheNwothm: Can you tell us about the recording process for your latest release La Interminable Lucha? What were the biggest challenges and highlights?
A: That EP was delayed longer than expected, as the band members were living in remote locations a couple of years ago. The band went into a brief hiatus, and the recordings were left unfinished. After a while, we returned to them with much more experience, and our reunion was a success. We were truly delighted with the result. Our friend Vicente Z did a great job of mixing it, and I’ll always remember him with pride. Erik B also helped give it that final sound. And our friend Christopher F. was in charge of immortalizing it on CD with EntheosRecs.
TheNwothm: Any Favourite tracks?
A: We have a different affection for all the songs. Perhaps “No te dejes gobernar” is one of those songs our audience usually requests and sings along to. In all our performances, that song marks the high point of our show, which is why it’s usually our favorite.
TheNwothm: What is the story behind the artwork?
A: The artwork was created by Bastián Velazquez, a great Chilean artist. You can find him on Instagram as @desert_dungeon. He’s truly a genius and a friend. He currently resides in Colombia, where he has his studio. We knew he was good at what he did, but we were truly amazed by the finished work. We only asked for an epic battle scene; he had complete artistic freedom.
TheNwothm: Any gigs or tours planned?
A: We are planning recital dates for the second half of 2025 here in Chile, we will be available as soon as we leave the recording studio and open to invitations.
TheNwothm: What other goals does the band have for 2025?
A: Our main goal will be to release our first full-length album, which is already quite advanced in the recording studio. It will be eight songs following a classic vein, but with even more passion and work involved.
TheNwothm: How can our readers buy your music and merch?
