Canadian/American epic doom metallers Smoulder have released their third studio album, “Witch Wife in an Alien World”, via Cruz Del Sur Music. Across eight tracks, the band continues to broaden its sound, blending its established epic doom foundation with influences drawn from black metal while maintaining its trademark sense of adventure and scale.
Recorded in Finland and the United States before being mixed and mastered by Roland Rodas, the album features standout tracks including “Water Wars”, “Shadow of the Vulture”, “Cathedral of the Trees” and “Smouldering Remains”. One of its most distinctive moments arrives with “Noitien Loitsu”, the band’s first song to feature both English and Finnish lyrics, inspired by vocalist Sarah Ann’s Finnish heritage and life in Helsinki.
Thematically, “Witch Wife in an Alien World” explores feelings of alienation, social division and modern disconnection. These ideas are reflected in the album’s striking cover artwork, created by renowned British fantasy and horror illustrator Ian Miller, whose credits include work for Warhammer, Magic: The Gathering and the cult animated film “Wizards”.
With the album now released, Smoulder are turning their attention towards the live stage. Bolstered by musicians from death and black metal backgrounds, the band has prioritised creating a heavier and more immersive concert experience, with atmosphere and power taking centre stage.
“Witch Wife in an Alien World” is available now on vinyl, CD and digital formats.
