Night Spectre are one of Athens’ newest heavy metal contenders, stepping forward with a debut built on conviction, classic influences and a deep respect for the underground scene that shaped them. In this interview, the band trace their formation, their sound and the path leading to their first full‑length, offering a clear look at the passion driving their rise.

Interview
TheNwothm: Greetings Night Spectre! How are you all doing?
N.S: Hi, thank you so much for the opportunity and this interview. Everything is going great on our end as we slowly see our album coming to life. We recently played our first live show and are really excited for what’s next.
TheNwothm: Let us kick things off by finding out where you from, who is in the band and where you are from?
N.S: We’re a heavy metal band from Athens. My name is Tasos Molyviatis and I handle the vocals. Our two lead guitarists are Thomas Stamatas and Dimitris Diogos, Thanasis Loumos plays the bass, and Thodoris Piperidis is on drums.
TheNwothm: Can you tell our readers about how you formed and chose the name Night Spectre?
N.S: The band took shape about two years ago. At the time I had already written three songs and was searching for the right people to create a band. A close friend of mine, a bassist I used to jam with, couldn’t continue, but he introduced me to our two guitarists, Dimitris and Thomas. Later on, I reached out to Thanasis and Thodoris, whom I already knew from previous bands I had played in. That’s how the five of us finally came together. As for the name, we wanted something simple in words but heavy in meaning.
Something that evokes darkness and the primal fear every human carries within. The fear of the unknown, of things we cannot fully comprehend, like death itself. These are the things most people try to hide from, yet sooner or later they always find their way back to us.
TheNwothm: Has heavy metal always been in your blood or did you all grow up listening to other styles of music? If so what are they?
N.S: In our early teenage years, we listened to a variety of music. I personally started with Gothic, dark wave, and similar bands. Then, at some point, I saw a TV broadcast of Iron Maiden performing Fear of the Dark live and everything changed. One album led to another, one band led to another, and it just kept going. From our conversations, it seems the others in the band had a similar path. Τhey started out listening more to Led Zeppelin and other hard rock acts, until they discovered Iron Maiden and after that, everything fell into place on its own.
TheNwothm: Do you have any guilty pleasure artists or bands you listen to?
N.S: Definitely Steel Panther! No doubt about it
TheNwothm: We know that the Greek heavy metal scene is on fire and you get your fair share of bands touring there. What does the Athens metal scene mean to you and who has been some of the best gigs you have seen in your area?
N.S: Metalheads in Athens and across Greece are driven by passion, dedication, and a bit of madness. That energy has brought major acts like Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Manowar, and many others to Greece multiple times, and we were fortunate to see Dio and Motorhead live here as well.
The same underground mindset exists among local bands. They trade releases, support each other, and pour respect and intense passion into their music. On top of that, Athens hosts two vital underground metal festivals every year, Up Τhe Hammers and Into Τhe Battle Fest, where important international acts meet and play alongside some of the strongest Greek bands.
TheNwothm: Who would you hope to see come with and in particular love to support one day?
N.S: I’ve already seen most of the active bands I’ve dreamed of. In a dream scenario, we’d love to support Iron Maiden, it would be a dream come true, as they’ve shaped the lives of everyone in our band. Beyond that, there are so many bands we’re huge fans of. Playing with Riot, Jag Panzer, or Enforcer would be an incredible honor.
TheNwothm: How do you feel the reception to heavy metal is these days in comparison to what it was in the glory days of say the 80’s? Do you feel a lot has changed?
N.S: The 1980s were undoubtedly the golden era of metal. The decade when the most monumental albums were released. Records that carved their mark into our souls forever and defined the very sound of the genre.
Naturally, the level of acceptance at that time was also far more massive. Metal was not just a scene, it was a powerful cultural force.
However, from the mid-1990s onward, the mainstream media of heavy music and the major record companies began promoting what they called the “new sound of metal.” Many of these bands, however, had little to do with the true essence of the metal scene, not musically, not lyrically, and certainly not aesthetically.
As a result, the opportunities today for bands that choose to play true metal have become extremely limited.
Yet this reality also has a positive side. Playing real metal has never been the safest or smartest career choice. Bands that dedicate themselves to it do so purely out of love, passion, and commitment to the sound. They put their soul into it because they genuinely believe in it.
The same can be said for the fans. Those who remain loyal to the scene are not passive listeners who consume whatever is placed in front of them. They search, they discover, they buy records, they collect, and they actively support the bands they believe in.
And because of all this, what we have today is a remarkably strong underground scene, one filled with authenticity, dedication, and powerful releases.
In the end, perhaps this is exactly how metal was always meant to survive.

TheNwothm: When you think about heavy metal as a whole how does it make you feel? Does it feel like a comfort or something you can pour your energy into?
N.S: Heavy metal gives us power, excitement, and a full-on rebellion against anything conventional that the establishment tries to impose. It opens doors to hidden corners of this world and imaginary realms, and above all, it keeps alive the heart of the eternal teenager. What metal means to us is perfectly expressed in Heavy load’s Might for Right song.
TheNwothm: Let us talk about the present. You have just unleashed a beast of a new single called “Death Contract.” Tell our readers what the single is about and where inspiration for it came from?
N.S: The song tells the story of a man who is different from the rest of society. He has a dark aura and an unconventional personality, but he’s not actually guilty of the things people accuse him of. Still, whenever something goes wrong, he becomes the scapegoat.
Because of that, he ends up living as an outcast, constantly judged and rejected. Over time, the way society treats him slowly pushes him toward the darkness they already see in him.
In the end, he stops fighting it and fully embraces that dark side. The world turned him into a monster in its eyes, so he decides to become exactly that and live for revenge.
TheNwothm: This is a track lifted from your upcoming debut album! When I checked out the song it mentioned influences like Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, and the NWOBHM scene through the U.S. What other influences have helped shape the new record and how are you making it your own?
N.S: The influences we mentioned are probably the main ones, but of course there are many more. We’re big fans of Mercyful Fate and King Diamond, and that definitely left its mark on us. We also love bands like Doomsword and Atlantean Kodex, whose epic atmosphere has inspired us. There’s actually one very specific, fully epic track that reflects the sense of awe those influences created in us.
Overall, these influences shaped the way we hear and feel music. That sound is naturally part of who we are, so we’re simply expressing ourselves through a musical language we grew up with. The riffs, melodies, and lyrics come from our own imagination and mindset, so while the influences are there, the result is still very personal. In the end, songwriting for us feels almost like a ritual, a way of completing and expressing ourselves
TheNwothm: The record is made of 8 tracks and has running time of around 45 minutes! How have you carved the record to keep the music focused, all killer no filler? Ultimately hitting as hard as possible with your debut?
N.S: From the start, we consciously chose not to release a demo or any other kind of mini release, but to focus all our energy on presenting the band through a full debut album.
Some of the songs go back to 2018, even before the band was fully formed. Later we worked on the rest together, refining the material for about a year and a half and putting a lot of effort into it before entering the studio. In the end, we did everything we could to make sure there are no fillers and that every track represents us 100%.

TheNwothm: Can you share some insights into the record, such as the songs, favourite tracks and who was behind the record?
N.S: It may sound cliché, but we don’t really have a single favorite track. We’ve worked hard on all of them, they represent us 100%, and we love them almost equally. Sometimes one stands out depending on the mood, but that can always change.
The album features five straightforward, high-energy tracks, one power ballad, and two songs with a more epic character. We rehearsed the material for about a year and a half before recording it in different studios in Athens, and the mixing and mastering were done by Olof Wikstrand of Enforcer, who we felt was the perfect person for the sound we wanted (besides the fact that we’re big fans).
TheNwothm: What do you hope listeners will get from your debut?
N.S: Uncompromising, pure heavy metal with straightforward songs, epic at times, crafted with love for the genre and true passion.
TheNwothm: What are your touring plans for 2026 to support its release?
N.S: Since we’re still a very new band and have just released the first single from our upcoming album, we haven’t booked many live shows yet. We played our very first show a few weeks ago and we’re incredibly excited about what’s ahead. Our goal now is simply to play as many shows as possible, and announcements will follow when the time is right.
TheNwothm: How can our readers buy your music and merch?
