Texas heavy metallers Myth Carver are a band I recently discovered, and from the moment I heard King of the Pyre, I was hooked. The sheer intensity and craftsmanship in their sound left me wanting more, which led me to dive into their latest EP, Twist of Fate. Now, after giving it a proper listen, I can’t help but wonder—could this be a contender for my top 10 of 2025?
Review
So here we go! First up is the track “Untamed Steel” and straight away the guitar unleashes a spew of spiralling notes before we are met with some thrashy drum patterns. Then there is that raging guitar and bass work that leaves smoke trails behind. There is a lot of character and personality to the song which feels like a swing between sinister melting guitar ideas and something that can not be controlled. The vocal work is a mix of belting heavy metal lines and even at moments dare I say a little in the direction of Obituary which is not what I expected at all! It moves from speed/thrashy ideas to dark and haunting sections that linger for a moment. The solo soars and squeals before we reach the the ending which gives us some hazy acoustic guitar ideas that sing in the background. Certainly an unexpected ending!
Thunderkill is track two on this EP and the opening feels like someone taking the lid of something untamed, something menacing, potentially something lethal that could explode at any second. I am loving the production especially how big the mix feels. Where ever they recorded this has certainly injected something distinctive into the song, especially the use of reverb on the drums adding a lot of depth. Thunderkill is more of a pumping metal machine kind of track and the vocal work particularly shines through more here. Another killer song indeed!
Shadow Firmament awakens with vibrating synth notes before everything else comes in. I must say, I am throughly enjoying the guitar style and tones of Myth Carver. There is this classic metal guitar vibe going on mixed up with some extra heaviness almost crossing into other genre territories. Like the other tracks this feels massive in size and I feel that again that is not only down to the production but what the instruments and gear the guys have use to capture their sound. There are moments of clean singing which I love but there is that flavourful gritty vocal which acts as a great reflection. Absolute fire!
Iron Helm is the closer and takes me back to what got me into Myth Carver which is their song “King of the Pyre.” It has that quick picking guitar work that I have always enjoyed and found exciting in heavy metal. Of course you get that adrenaline rush from that and the verses are awesome, but the track is also filled with kick ass walking guitar patterns and flair from the drums and bass. There is a slower stomp section which is easily an invitation for people to headbang and pump their fists in the air. This feels like a complete opposite to the first track showing the bands diversity and musical ability. Personally I much prefer the sound direction of Iron Helm but that is just my personal preference. Never the less the EP finishes on a total high and the EP has a very pleasing listening experience!

Conclusion
Despite being a relatively new band, Myth Carver’s latest EP, Twist of Fate, showcases remarkable growth, proving they’ve found their footing and refined their signature sound. The dark, heavy metal tones of their debut singles, King of the Pyre and Crimson Terrain, remain a strong foundation, but the band has expanded their approach, introducing new elements that create a more dynamic and well-rounded listening experience. In my opinion their evolution brings to mind the epic stylings of Eternal Champion, blended seamlessly with the feverishly intricate guitar work reminiscent of Fili Bibiano from Intranced and the powerful essence of Sumerlands. But then there is that heavier element I simply cannot place a thumb on!
Either way I love their new EP and I am excited to see what the future holds for Myth Carver. Sometimes you come across something special and I feel these guys have got a lot of potential to make their mark of the American heavy metal scene! An absolute beast of a first EP! Well done!
