British heavy metal pioneers DIAMOND HEAD are set to release Live And Electric, a thunderous live album that captures the raw, unfiltered energy of the band’s legendary stage presence. Due out July 11th via Silver Lining Music, the album is a blazing showcase of a band firing on all cylinders—delivering a setlist that spans their iconic catalog with the kind of no-holds-barred intensity that only comes from decades of live experience.
The first single, a blistering version of fan-favorite “Helpless”, is available now. Founding guitarist Brian Tatler shared the story behind the track:
“In September 1979 the song ‘Helpless’ began life as a riff I was playing by an obscure punk band. I was playing it at the fifth fret and singer Sean Harris said, ‘play it at the second fret but play it faster,’ and the song took shape. It has always been a powerhouse live and one of the songs that has never left the set list. Metallica covered ‘Helpless’ on The $5.98 EP… in 1987 which introduced it to a whole new set of metal fans.”
The accompanying video for “Helpless,” directed by Jay Shredder, brings the ferocity of the track to life and is available to watch now.
Live And Electric was recorded across multiple dates on the band’s 2022 UK tour with Saxon, with performances captured in Aberdeen, Blackburn, York, Cambridge, Cardiff, and Bexhill. The album is a celebration of classic British heavy metal spirit, wrapped in a sound mix that immerses listeners right into the pit. The recording was handled by Jay Shredder, with frontman Rasmus Bom Andersen mastering the final production.
Tatler emphasized the significance of the new release:
“It’s the first DIAMOND HEAD live album for twenty years and the first time in DIAMOND HEAD’s career that we were able to record all fourteen shows and then go through them to find the best performances. In the past, we would only record one specific show and so all the pressure to get it right on the night would build up and make everyone very nervous. Somewhere in the middle of this tour things began to gel and fortunately these shows were captured for posterity.”
With a lineup including Tatler on guitar, Andersen on vocals, Karl Wilcox on drums, Andrew “Abbz” Abberley on rhythm and lead guitar, and Paul Gaskin on bass, the band delivers a performance that bridges generations of metal. Classics like “The Prince” and “Am I Evil?” slam alongside newer material such as “Belly Of The Beast,” showing off a band that honors its past while powering forward with fresh energy.
Live And Electric will be available on 2xLP, CD, and digital formats, and is available for pre-order now.
