Serpent Gates Announce Debut Album “The Veil of Darkness,” Arriving the 20th of February

Serpent Gates, the striking new force championing traditional heavy metal, are preparing to unveil their first full‑length album, “The Veil of Darkness,” on the 20th of February. The Finnish outfit have long envisioned bringing their brand of classic metal to life, and in recent years their dedication, persistence and shared musical vision have finally aligned to make that ambition a reality.

The band’s core creative partnership consists of drummer Juho Hakalax and guitarist Tuomas Västilä, with the album also featuring a powerful vocal performance from Antony Parviainen of Psychework, who appears as a session singer.

Speaking about the album’s third and final single, which shares its title with the record, composer Juho Hakalax explains:

“Our upcoming debut album isn’t exactly laid-back, as slow songs don’t really come easily to this composer. However, the title track of this album has a slightly more dynamic feel, and the atmosphere has been deepened with synths and clear sounding guitars, among other things. The vocals follow the winding tones of the song and raise its energy to new heights as the chorus crashes down from above, loud and clear.”

The new single is available now across major streaming platforms including Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer, Tidal and Amazon Music:

Lyricist Jegori Miinin adds further insight into the song’s thematic weight:

“The song has the darkest lyrics on the album, which were also the first ones written. At this time, inspiration was not hard to find, as opening any media device was enough to be hit by the stench of humanity. Homo homini lupus, as stated in an ancient Roman play.”

Lineup:

Antony Parviainen – Vocals (session member)

Juho Hakalax – Drums

Tuomas Västilä – Guitar

Sami Tapola – Bass
