Colorado epic fantasy metal visionaries Siege Perilous open a new chapter in their expanding mythos with the release of their debut single and music video, “As the Dragon Falls”. The track features the unmistakable voice of Fabio Lione, known for his work with Rhapsody and Angra, and offers the first glimpse into the band’s forthcoming concept album, “Becoming the Dragon”, set for release on March 27, 2026.

Rooted in the camaraderie of live action roleplay and a shared passion for epic narrative, Siege Perilous has carved out a distinctive identity built on cinematic storytelling and melodic power. “Becoming the Dragon” represents the culmination of years of collaborative writing, world building, and musical refinement, bringing together the band’s love of myth, history, and high fantasy.

“As the Dragon Falls” marks a significant milestone for the group, particularly for vocalist Shaughnessy McDaniel, whose admiration for Rhapsody stretches back to his teenage years. The band reflects on the experience by stating, “As the Dragon Falls represents a true heavy metal dream come true for all of us, but especially for Shaughnessy. Working with Fabio far exceeded anything we could have hoped for. His classic soaring vocals combined with Shaughnessy’s lower register create a really unique and cool power metal sound.”

The single explores a narrative twist in which the act of slaying the dragon becomes a metaphor for the complicated nature of achieving one’s ambitions. This emotional undercurrent resonated strongly with Lione, who, according to the band, “really gave it his all.”

Musically, the track blends the band’s melodic power metal foundation with the sweeping symphonic elements that defined classic Rhapsody. The result is a heroic anthem that gradually descends into darker territory as the story unfolds.

“Becoming the Dragon” unfolds across ten chapters that follow the rise, fall, and transformation of the Child of Prophecy, a central figure who must confront destiny, loss, and an ultimate metamorphosis into the dragon itself. The album includes guest performances from both Fabio Lione and acclaimed vocalist Kristin Starkey of Twilight Force and Temperance, who also mentors McDaniel.

Reflecting on the project, the band shares, “Creating a massive, sweeping power metal epic has been a dream since before we even formed this band. This album represents our collective experience, skill, hopes, and dreams as musicians.”

The record highlights the group’s evolution since their early EPs, featuring expanded vocal range, intricate arrangements, and orchestration that enhances the album’s cinematic scale.
