Killer is a heavy/speed metal band from Antwerp, Belgium, formed in 1980 and still active today. Originally a power trio led by guitarist/vocalist Paul “Shorty” Van Camp, they quickly gained recognition with Ready for Hell (1981) and Wall of Sound (1982), helping define Belgium’s metal identity alongside Ostrogoth and Crossfire. Their raw, aggressive sound drew comparisons to Motörhead, though their true influences leaned toward NWOBHM pioneers like Saxon and Iron Maiden.
Killer’s third album Shock Waves (1984) solidified their reputation, leading to international tours and festival appearances. After lineup changes and a brief hiatus, they returned with Fatal Attraction (1990), followed by a series of reissues and new material in the 2000s. Their 2015 release Monsters of Rock marked their final album with Mausoleum Records before the label’s closure.
Now signed to Cherry Red Records, Killer celebrated their 43rd anniversary with Hellfire (2023), a hard-hitting album recorded by the current lineup: Shorty, Vanne (drums), and Ian Anthony (bass). The release includes a bonus disc of re-recorded classics and continues their legacy as one of Belgium’s most enduring metal exports.
