Interview

TheNwothm: Hey there! For our readers who may not be aware of you can you please introduce the band and where you are from?

T: Triumpher is an epic metal band from Athens, Hellas. We play a mixture of epic heavy metal with black metal and other extreme metal touches.

TheNwothm: Can you take us back to the early days. How did Triumpher come together back in 2019?

T: Triumpher started in 2019 out of a strong urge to create something musically and ideologically uncompromising. We were already active in the underground scene and shared the same vision, to channel Hellenic heritage, into a Metal music attitude that doesn’t beg for attention, it takes it!!!

TheNwothm: What inspired the name Triumpher, and does it reflect the themes or spirit of the band?

T: I believed from the first moment it came to my mind that it was the perfect name to reflect the music we represent in depth. He or she who bears the title “Triumpher” stands always victorious, no matter what the cost. It’s a name meant to inspire and unite faithful and true people under our banner and to inflict terror upon the enemies of true art.

TheNwothm: Who are your influences?

T: From the raw epic force of Bathory and the dark majesty of Emperor, Dissection, and Mayhem, to the power of early Matallica,Slayer and the epic and heavy metal fire of Manowar,Black Sabbath,Iron Maiden, Dio,King Diamond, Candlemass etc. But we go further. Wagner, Bach they’ve shaped the grandeur and atmosphere behind our compositions. Also I have to mention my all time favourite Vangelis Papathansiou as a huge influence.

TheNwothm: Was there a specific moment or spark that made you realise this band had real potential?

T: We realised that Triumpher had real potential when we finally recorded the first album, Storming the Walls. That was the moment I saw the vision I had in my mind take shape, and it turned out even better than I expected.

TheNwothm: How has being based in Athens influenced your sound and lyrical themes?

T: Being based in Athens has definitely influenced both our sound and lyrics. Growing up surrounded by ancient history, mythology, and a strong cultural and religious identity naturally shaped the way we write and think about music. These themes are part of our everyday environment, so it felt natural to include them in our work.

TheNwothm: Greek mythology plays a strong role in your music. How do you balance historical elements with fantasy in your lyrics?

T: Hellenic mythology and cosmic views are part of our whole being. It’s not just stories from the past, it’s a religious and philosophical way of thinking that shapes how we see the world.  In Triumpher’s lyrics, we don’t treat mythology as fantasy. There are strong social and spiritual messages behind what we write, and that’s the core of how we approach it.

TheNwothm: Is there something about the Greek metal scene that sets it apart from others around the world?

T: No I don’t think that the Greek scene has something different from the Global scene except the Ethnic cultural differences, that is totally logical.Every country has its own colours and flavours in terms of how the understand art.

TheNwothm: What is your creative process when it comes to making music?

T: We focus a lot on structure and dynamics. Every part of a song has a purpose , it needs to move the listener, not just fill space. We also pay attention to layering, transitions, and pacing, almost like building a scene in a film.
The goal is to create tension and release in a way that fits the lyrical theme and keeps the energy clear from start to finish.
That happening in both our albums Spirit Invictus and Storming the Walls.

TheNwothm: What can you tell us about “Storming the Walls?”

T: In Storming the Walls, there’s a great battle taking place.
A whole army of Gods and Heroes awakens from Lethe to reclaim the Heavens from Cronian usurpers of Western civilization. It’s a symbolic war about memory, identity, and resistance against cultural decay.
The album tells that story through each track, with the music supporting the intensity and scale of that vision.

TheNwothm: Which track would you say represents the band?

The track that best represents Triumpher’s identity is The Blazing Circle. It combines the Hellenic cosmic worldview with a strong social message. The core idea is being a hostage or a slave is not an option. Freedom isn’t given you for free, you have to fight to achieve it. That message, both spiritual and politically, defines what Triumpher stands for.

TheNwothm: What are your upcoming touring plans—any chance fans outside of Greece will see you live soon?

T: We’re also aiming to bring Triumpher to more live audiences and tour more often. You will hear from us when the time is right

TheNwothm: Are there already ideas or themes forming for your next release?

T: We plan to keep building on our core identity, while expanding musically and conceptually. The next material will go deeper into the Hellenic philosophical roots and explore new sound layers without losing our heaviness.

TheNwothm: Will you continue to explore ancient and epic themes, or are you open to branching out into new lyrical territory?

TheNwothm: How can fans follow you/ buy your music and merch?
