Single Review: Starforce “Andromeda”

Release date: Out now!

3–5 minutes

StarForce is a heavy/speed metal band from Mexico City, Mexico, formed in 2021. Known for their high-energy sound and thematic focus on space, the cosmos, and wickedness, the band operates independently without a record label. Their discography began with the single “StarForce” in 2022, followed by the EP “The Universe Is Mine” and the split “Guerreras Del Metal – Volumen 1” later that same year. In 2023, they released the single “Sign of an Angel,” continuing their powerful metal streak. The band contributed to the split “Hell’Stars” in 2024, and now they are releasing their new single “Andrómeda,” taken from their upcoming album due out on July 11th. StarForce continues to gain recognition as one of Mexico’s emerging forces in the metal scene.

Spreading light and darkness, we only know darknes and it’s part of us, up to the collapse in the far future…
Beyond the eternal light, night and the collapse of cosmos we are forging steel. Andrómeda is a song about the myth and the goddess cosmic, talking about galaxies and the cruelty history of Andrómeda, making a satire between the worldly human misdeed and the goddess of universe and cosmos.

Review

This is my first time listening to Starforce, so I’m really intrigued to hear what their new single Andromeda has in store! The band doesn’t mess around and gets straight to it. From the moment the song starts, we are welcomed by colossal, roaring chords that sound like a beast—combined with cymbal smashes and tom rolls. A lead guitar joins in, singing its melody before we get to the thick of it. A single guitar riff rips for a moment before a huge metal scream ignites the song, and we are catapulted into the fast-paced action. This is sweaty stuff, with tearing riffs that go at lightning speeds, thunderous drums and bass that will rattle your ribcage, and vocals that cut everything in half.

I love how the structure of the song is so well written, and every moment feels like something new is happening. There is a wealth of intricate detail coming from every single instrument, so I strongly advise you to listen to this over and over to fully take it in. It just feels so damn exciting!

The vocal delivery from Mely Wild is absolutely spot on and flows perfectly on top of the face-melting riffs that power things forward. She has some serious pipes and knows how to deliver killer harmonies. It’s always great to hear a vocalist who can properly sing, and Mely truly shows her talents.

The black metal-style blast beats behind the explosive solo section really take the song in an unexpected direction. And of course, the guitar work here is absolutely insane! Soaring riffs, harmonies, and scales that feel like beautiful flurries of notes are all present, while delivering something super intense and powerful.

But my favourite moment follows! We drop into a brief section where the guitars tear us through the skies at super speeds, while we get a huge “woah woah” section on top. The production, I have to mention, makes this sound absolutely enormous—so make sure you have your speakers turned up! I got this proper feel-good feeling running through my body, and the metal scream at the end is the icing on the cake. Magic!

The breakdown section is a welcome moment where a left-panned guitar continues riffing, while the right guitar, bass, and drums give us some powerful stabs and mini-fills to keep things interesting. The drumming kicks back in properly before Mely joins again, and we hit what I believe is another bridge or chorus, which has all the force and intensity that’s been present throughout. There’s even another absolutely huge harmonised vocal scream to take us pretty much all the way out!

Conclusion

Now this is the kind of stuff I like! I love my metal to me exciting, intense and full of energy and Starforce know how to deliver. As mentioned this is my first time listening to this group and I must say I am truly impressed. If this track is anything to go by then I am super excited to what the album has to offer!
