Hailing from Finland, Night Slasher is a fierce Blackened Speed Metal band that’s taken the scene by storm. Although they only formed last year, they’ve already played numerous shows and released a powerful self-titled album that’s ready to shred your speakers. Check out our little interview with the band!
TheNwothm: Hey there! Can you please introduce the band and where you are from?
N.S: Hi. We’re Night Slasher, a black speed metal band from Vilnius, Lithuania.
TheNwothm: You guys only formed last year, yet in a short time it seems you have been busy! So how did Night Slasher form?
N.S: We’ve all been together in a band called “Alcotopia” for almost a decade before starting Night Slasher and the music on Night Slasher’s album was indeed supposed to be Alcotopia’s second album, but the new music was way too dark and heavy for our old alco thrash image.
TheNwothm: So you are from Vilnius In Lithuania! I think you might be the first band that we have interviewed from the country! What can you tell us about your hometown and the culture of Lithuania? What is it like there?
N.S: It’s a Northern European country so people like to keep to themselves, but hard partying is a big part of life here, so it’s a great place for playing black speed metal.
TheNwothm: And how would you describe the state of the countries metal scene and how has it shaped your band?
N.S: It’s a hidden gem, if you look hard enough, it has many amazing bands. A couple of examples being Hellhookah and Regressive.
TheNwothm: If you were to describe your take on metal to first time listeners how would you describe yourselves and where do you draw influence from?
N.S: We’re fast and nasty, but there’s a lot of melody and a horror story behind every song to give meaning to it all besides the fun of raw power of the music itself.
TheNwothm: Ok so “Pit of Hate” and “Black Trip” were the first two singles you put out!n What can you tell us about the musical and lyrical themes of these songs and how were they received?
N.S: Pit Of Hate is about suicide and Black Trip is about a dark spiritual journey. Both fast and very melodic. We really wanted to start with a bang, so we tried to make the most over the top music video we could to release together with Pit Of Hate.
TheNwothm: When writing songs do they come together quite quickly? Who are the main songwriters in the group?
N.S: They take at least a few years to write. Usually the guitarist comes up with the initial idea for the instrumental while the vocalist writes the lyrics and his own vocal parts, but after that we spend years rehearsing and refining the songs as a whole band playing together.
TheNwothm: On a different note what bands are you currently listening to and are there and Lithuanian bands you would recommend?
N.S: For the Lithuanian bands we already mentioned Hellhookah and Regressive, but speaking globally, we love Bütcher, Bewitcher, Nifelheim, Midnight and similar bands.
TheNwothm: What can you tell our readers about yourselves? Any interesting hobbies or facts?
N.S: In between day jobs, making music and partying we ended up with little time for extra hobbies 😉
TheNwothm: How did guys choose the look for the band? Would you say it is a big part of your stage show?
N.S: It is a big part, because it helps us channel our music visually as well. We wanted to blend a Mad Max style post apocalyptic look with what you’d usually expect from a black speed metal band.

TheNwothm: So you released you debut self-titled album last year which comprises of 8 tracks! Can you give our readers a brief overview of the tracks and highlight any favourites you each have?
N.S: We didn’t want to make the album too long, since we wanted to include only the best tracks we had, so it’s hard to single out any specific tracks, since every song plays an important role in the album as a whole.
TheNwothm: And how did you initially decide on the direction of the album? Did you have an idea in mind right from the start on what you wanted to explore?
N.S: It happened pretty naturally, we just let our own tastes make the musical decisions without letting any external BS ruin the fun for us.
TheNwothm: So did the writing and recording process come together quite smoothly? Was the album a Labour of love?
N.S: We put in a ton of effort to make the album as unique sounding as we could while still getting that raw, dirty and powerful metal energy, so we got the drums recorded in a large and miced chamber, we recorded the guitar and bass with real amps and avoided any cliche recording equipment. We also recorded all the sound samples for the album from scratch.
TheNwothm: What can you tell us about the albums artwork? What does it depict and how created it?
N.S: It was hand drawn by Sharpy, a good friend of the band who also did the cover art for the Alcotopia album and the art is a pretty good visual depiction of what you’ll find inside the actual music of the album.
TheNwothm: So we are in 2024 what have you got planned for the rest of the year in terms of live performances ?
N.S: We’ve already did 11 shows across the Baltics and Finland, we have a few more festivals booked and we’re constantly working on getting live shows around Europe.
TheNwothm: And do you have any plans for more music?
N.S: We’re heavily focusing on writing songs right now, so the next album is on the way 😉
TheNwothm: Where can fans buy music and merch?
N.S: For now anyone can just contact us over FB, IG or email, since we’re still working on setting up proper sales through bandcamp:

TheNwothm: Any thing else you would like to mention?
