Supporting bands by buying their music and merch is massively important if you want to help them to keep going and do what they do best! And this is something we love to highlight here at TheNwothm. But today I am highlighting something a bit different. Cancer affects many people worldwide and of course many of us in the metal scene will have had family affected by cancer. So today I wanted to show my support by highlighting someone who some of us may know.

Daniel Scalpel is a patchmaker and is known mostly for making Nwobhm patches here in the UK. Some of you may have even bought patches from him and will know he is a really friendly and warming person. However he has recently been diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer and friends of his are trying to help raise money to help him. This has been taken from the GoFundMe page.

Hi, my name is Liz van der Kris and my friend’s name is Caroline Larkin. We are trying to raise funds for our brilliant friend Daniel Skalpel. Dan is known to a lot of bands in the NWOBHM genre as well as others. He makes the band patches and they are absolutely brilliant and all the bands are delighted with them. However, recently Daniel has been diagnosed with a very aggressive form of cancer. He has unfortunately been given a much shorter life expectancy. His only chance is to undergo an extremely harsh regime of chemotherapy amongst other treatments suggested as this is the only option he has to survive. Luckily Daniel is a very strong man and is determined to fight as hard as he can. This is the reason for the fundraiser, so when he needs money to enable him to make treatment choices, it will hopefully be there for him. Daniel is and has been a huge part of the Metal family and on his behalf we are hoping that our Metal family will come together to help and support one of their own.
