INTERVIEW: EVE’S BITE (FRANCE)

Hailing from Saint-Étienne, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France, Eve’s Bite are ready to deliver a fusion or heavy metal and hard rock that will certain leave you searching for anti-venom!

TheNwothm: Hello, Eves Bite! How are you? Could you introduce the members of the band and share where you all originate from?

E.B: Hi my friend ! Hi metalheads ! we are fine thanks, Eve’s Bite is composed by Laurent Descours at bass and backing vocals, he’s got his home studio called “Grey Wolf Home Studio”, Tony at rhythm and lead guitars and backing vocals, Meghann the drummer and Olivier the lead singer, rhythm and lead guitars. We live near St Etienne, except Meghann who lives next to Lyon France.

TheNwothm: I understand the band formed in 2014. Can you elaborate on how the band came together?

E.B: That’s right, I wished to create  a band where I could sing and play guitars. At The beginning, Eve’s Bite had Robin as the drummer and Beranger as the bassist that you can see in our first clip “King Of The Wind”. Robin left the band in 2018 because he left France to live in Japan, and Beranger left the band in 2017 for personal reasons. With Tony, we had two dead years before finding Laurent at drums first. We had Nick at bass until November 2023 and left the band just before we release the album. Since November Laurent left drums to take the bass  and our friend Meghann is at drums.

TheNwothm: Prior to Eves Bite, were any of you involved in other musical projects? If so, did any of those experiences influence the sound of Eves Bites?

E.B:
Yes, i played guitars in a band called Swine Diamond before, Meghann played with XXL, Trauma and Fire Wizzard. Laurent played in Furyens, and many other bands and still plays drums in Heavylution. Tony had an Iron Maiden cover band. We can’t tell that we are inspired by these projects because they are all different, old, but it forged us to be in a band with all the lessons you can learn about it.

TheNwothm: What inspired the choice of Eves Bite as the band’s name?

E.B:
We thought about Adam and Eve, the legends about sins, vice,  wrote in religions and we liked this link with the clichés (or not) you can find in Rock n Roll. We wanted a catchy name so we came to find Eve’s Bite.

TheNwothm: Hailing from Saint-Étienne, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France! How do you perceive the present metal scene in your country, and are there any standout bands within the genre that you particularly admire?

E.B:
France is not really a metal country even if you have big festival like Hellfest but unfortunately, just a little part of French people listens to metal. So the metal scene is still underground here, but there are more and more new good bands like Existence, Tentation, BlackRain and old bands like Sortilège or ADX came back on stage with new albums, so I think the metal scene is going stronger with new festival too. For me, I admire BlackRain because I love their sound, songs and they ‘re still here after 20 years, still rocking.

TheNwothm: If someone was listening to you for the first time what could they expect? How would you describe your sound?

E.B: They can expect to find all the vibes you can find in the 80’s hard rock era, with many touches of heavy metal, catchy riffs, high vocals and catchy choruses. They can expect to feel we wrote the music with a really personal touch, personal sensibility. We tried to mix the sound of 80’s and something modern too. We didn’t want to do a copy of stuff already made but we tried to bring all our influences to sound like we sound to propose something fresh and new.

TheNwothm: Where do you all draw influence from musically?

E.B:
We are inspired by 80’s hair bands like Skid Row, Ac/Dc, Guns And Roses, Dokken, Ratt and modern bands like H.E.A.T. Crazy Lixx, CrashDiet etc. We like 80’s and 90’s films and video game culture, Meghann is a huge fan of synthwave too.

TheNwothm: Moving on to your releases, what was the inspiration behind the EP “Dive into the Vice” released in 2015?

E.B:
It was our first record, we were a little bit heavier in this Ep I think. We wanted something like old Def Leppard, Accept or Iron Maiden, we were still inspired by 80’s glam metal bands too.

TheNwothm: Do you have any favourite tracks from the EP?

E.B:
I think Waiting For The Night was good song, we decided to record a new version in our first album and i like “Hello, dead friend” too.

TheNwothm: What do you like to get unto when your not making music? Are any of you particularly active?

E.B: Yes, I love hiking, biking in nature, I love cooking too ! Laurent likes playing games or walking in nature, Meghann loves cinema and all the music in movies. Tony like nature, to be with friends.

TheNwothm: Could you provide insights into the themes explored in the EP “Holy Waters” released in 2017?

E.B: We talked about several themes like feminism like Lady Ball-Breaker, parties we made this years, we talked about love like in the song “Together”, we talked about people who gave  us not respected promises  in “King of The Wind”…

TheNwothm: If you been abroad which countries have you been too and which were your favourite?

E.B: Unfortunately, we didn’t have the chance  to go abroad yet, we hope to travel soon to bring our sound out of France ! I think playing in England, Italy, Spain or Germany could be a good experience.

TheNwothm: And from those countries are there any bands you have an eye on that you would love to play with?

E.B: There are many bands we wish to play with, but we wish to play with HEAT because it gave me a lot of inspiration when they recorded the album H.E.A.T II. I like The Treatment too form England.

TheNwothm: If each of you had to select a favourite single among the three released in 2023 and 2024 – “Waiting for The Night,” “Fire Fire Disaster,” and “Rock Fever” – which one would you opt for and what would be the reason behind your choice?

Olivier:
Inside your devil Eyes because I like the choruses and how the song grooves.
Tony: Tires On Fire cause I like how it’s sang.
Laurent: Inside You Devil Eyes because it’s loud and melodic.
Meghann: Die For The Beast because it closes our set on stage and people loves dancing on this song.

TheNwothm: In January of this year you released your first full length album “Blessed In Hell!” What can you tell us about the album? How did it come together and do you have any favourite tracks from the record?

E.B: It’s our first album, 12 titles we wanted to start this new line up with a new sound, new songs to show how the band sounds now, how we are inspired and how we write songs because our Ep begin to be old and not really representative of the band’s sound now. I started to compose it in 2021, excepted 3 or 4 songs i had before. In 2022 we had all the tracks.
Before Robin left the band, we wanted to make an album but we had to wait four years to release it so we are proud of the result, happy to finally release it after these years.

TheNwothm: Who were the team behind the record?

E.B:
It’s a 100% auto production, we didn’t have enough cash to go in a professional studio so we recorded our parts at home and we sent all we recorded to Laurent who mixed and mastered in his home studio. We knew how we wanted to sound, so we kept this direction, took our time to find the good mix, good sound etc. We are proud of the sound that Laurent made.

TheNwothm: And who did the kickass artwork?

E.B:
Ahah I told him and he’s really happy, thanks ! It’s my cousin Franck Perrot of https://fperrotdesign.fr/ who did the artwork, he started to draw it with paints on a paper ! We wanted something more “serious” compared to the Ep. We wanted to show how the band is inspired through the artwork too and we think Franck did it very well !

TheNwothm: Looking forward what are your plans for 2024? Will you be doing any live shows? And if so any major performances you want to highlight?

E.B:
Sure we are still looking for some dates to play, we already did some in our region but we wish to play in more festivals and find some dates abroad too.

TheNwothm: Where can fans buy your music and merch?

E.B:
They can find and buy our album on all the streaming platforms. Physical albums, Eps, t-shirt etc, are all available by email at evesbiteband@gmail.com.
