Work horses Haunt are back with another helping of metal magic! The band seem to work tireless and it only seems like yesterday that they put out the magnificent album “Golden Arm.” And so we welcome their epic new album known as “Dreamers” which is packed full of all the goodness from a Haunt record you could expect! So when I heard they had a new album coming I could not contain myself and simply had to give it a review. Main man Trevor is a talented song writer along with his buddies in the band! And the fact that they pretty much handle everything from production to promotion under the Church recordings banner shows that they never slow down! So get ready for “Dreamers!”
Review
Serenade awakens from a dream! The delicate acoustic guitars make there way in to our minds with hazy ideas floating around in the background! Trevor welcomes us with his powerful vocals before everything kicks off! The roaring guitars come in hitting you full face! Straight away that classic haunt vibe latches to you making its way into your blood stream. Infectious melodies against stomping drum patterns and a loving chorus ends up creating combination for a perfect opening track! Then finally it dances of into the sunset with more delicate acoustics!
Locked Out charges along with scaling licks breaking through at moments! The band are truly on form and if you are true Haunt fan I guarantee you will not be disappointed. The quick skipping drums and the thick, heavy guitar tones give the song depth and power! To me what I love about Haunt is that they use a lot of melodies and harmonies throughout their songs and of course this is not short on that!
Steel Mountains opens with some dark synths reminiscent of those 80’s experimental sounds and reflect the title perfectly! Then guitars explode quick picking frantically playing between tempos. Harmonic pinches and little tasty licks are plenty with Treavor delivering some wonderful layered vocal passages. One of my favourite sections are the chants of “we will conquer mountains of steel” against a backdrop of meaty riffage. The solo is delicious and will certainly delight your tastebuds! Another thrilling song!
Return To Sender is up next and continues soothing your ear canals. Its playful and notes flutter above the big rhythm guitar sounds. So far I have not had a moment where I have lost interest and once again this another track that keeps things moving and packs all you could want from a haunt song!
Send Me An Angel is an unexpected cover of a classic 80’s anthem! Can you guess the band? The songs instrumentation quite literally takes you above the clouds and into the heavens ! The pace only slows slightly but expect an airiness and lots of dreamy vibes! Haunt have done an amazing job on this track delivering their own unique twist! very interesting!
Now we are on to the album title track Dreamers! This mid-fast tempo pounder is enchanting and emotion and feelings are running rampant. Haunts passion and musicianship shines through on every instrument. And like every track on the album so far it doesn’t fall short on quality!
One Shot opens with the booming bass sounds of Sam Harmon and electric sweeping scales before moving into more mid tempo magic. The use of of synth moments break up the song nicely and the solo in my opinion is one of the tracks highlights! This is another of those feel good songs that will love to keep going back to!
Finally we come to the last song on the album known as Visions! Just short of 4 minutes this is another belter. Flying guitars from Treavor and Andy Lei will storm past you while the adrenaline filled drum lines from Andy Saldate keep the metal raging! A big chunky double kick passage in the middle switches things up and then we get more rocketing solo ideas! What a great track to end an album!
Conclusion!
Haunt are a band that never seem to slow down and have put out a number of fantastic releases over the years! They are one of those bands that have their own unique sound which makes them stand out in the genre and that os something I love about the band! Dreamers in my opinion is probably one of their best albums in recent years so If you are a Haunt fan or discovering them for the first time I guarantee you will not be disappointed!
