REVIEW: LADY BEAST II REISSUE

DYING VICTIMS PRODUCTIONS is proud to reissue LADY BEAST’s cult second album, Lady Beast II, on vinyl LP format.

Since 2009, LADY BEAST have been flying the flag for refined HEAVY METAL. The band hail from the Steel City of Pittsburgh, forming with firm influences ranging from Motörhead, Dio, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, and Mercyful Fate. From there, LADY BEAST have weaved their own unique style of metal with silky-yet-sharp harmonizing guitars and the soaring, rally-the-warriors vocals of frontwoman Deborah Levine. All the while, they’ve retained their blue-collar roots but have never forgotten the majesty of metal in its earliest, most classic form: fantasy, magic, epic adventure, and of course ANTHEMS!

While the quintet have released four full-lengths to date, it was LADY BEAST’s second album, 2015’s Lady Beast II, which could be viewed as their “breakout” moment. Released like their self-titled debut on their own Cobra Cabana Records, the original version of Lady Beast II was a vinyl edition limited to only 250 copies; the CD version followed later on Infernö Records, which closed a couple years ago. Thus, Lady Beast II has been criminally out of print, and DYING VICTIMS will now rectify that with a new vinyl version featuring remastered sound and updated cover art. Whatever year you experience it, LADY BEAST’s second album is a stormer, strutting and galloping with equal might, as instantly-hummable riffs prop up all these anthems-to-be whilst evincing a narrative flow that’s the quintessence of swords & sorcery. Of course, Levine’s vocals exude passion and power, pure & total EMOTION, and her performance here helped put LADY BEAST atop of the keep-it-true pack. Raise your sword again or for the first time with this new vinyl version of Lady Beast II

Review

Heavy Metal Destiny launches with a heroic intro before jetting off towards a beast of a storm. Fast and furious with riffs locked so tightly together you think that the bolts and screws would fall out of burning piece of heavy metal! The solo comes soaring towards the earth and of course the one and only Deb Levine injects all the passion and fire you could want!

We Are the Witches is a sinister little number. Get ready to be hexed with the sounds of pounding drums and crunching guitar tones. We are the witches is the perfect potion, nicely balanced and delivering everything you could want from a stomping metal tune!

As night falls we shall gather under the stars and by the fire! Bind the Runes is next up and in Lady Beast fashion continues with full force and almighty power! Crushing your ear canals with chugging riffs, dark melodies and and some epic heavy metal harmonies! Not to forget the spicy solo that is enough to splice your mind in half!

Caged Fury kicks things of at a nice slow pace to begin with an intro that could feel like giants stomping, shaking the ground below. And then this weaves in and out throughout the track. However the pace doesn’t remain slow for long as once again the beast takes the reigns again and makes haste leaving a trail of smoke behind!

Magical glorious harmonies welcome us as Heroes Of Our Time makes an entrance! The booming walking bass lines bring back that nostalgic feeling joined by big open chords, charged vocal lines and that epic feeling that you want in a metal track. It spits fire as the wild machine speeds along its tracks! Another killer track to add to the stack!

Get ready as the Frost Giant’s Daughter is out and ready to cause havoc! We get more of the good stuff, with all the meat and potatoes you could ask for. Stuffed full of tasty big chords and texture this will have your taste buds tingling! This is a simple but ballsy metal number!

Forest of the Impaled caught my attention straight away! Probably one of the fastest songs on the album this feels like a massive explosion of face melting riffs and drums that feel like an incoming tornado. The slower midway section got me swinging and swaying, throwing myself around. I love the harmonies and hot little solo! Another great track!

Lose to Win hits hard straight away with its deep bass tones and pure evilness. Something certainly changed the air around me when the sounds of this monster filled my room. And on top of this slab of heaviness, Deb continues leading the way with her captivating lyrics. The speed of the solo section feel like a fighter jet cutting the sky breaking the sound barrier! Most excellent!

Finally the Banshee finishes things off! Get ready for the darkness to creep in and a touch of mystery. Be careful as the spirit haunts these hungry guitar vibrations and warns us all of something wicked that comes our way. The screams finish things off! What could of happened? The Banshee feels a well rounded and fulfilling track that ends the album with a bang! Great stuff!

This reissue of this classic Lady Beast is warmly welcomed and if your a fan of the band your certainly need to check this and add it to your collection. If you loved epic heavy metal, driven by passion, and intriguing stories then this one is for you!
