Spanish Warrior’s Iron Curtain have been around since 2006 and been keeping the metal flame burning! From playing Keep It True Festival to a band member being a school teacher check out this Nice interview with Mike Leprosy of the band!

THE NWOTHM: For those who do not know who you are, can you tell us your band name, who is in the band and where you are from? 

I.C: Hi, here Mike Leprosy writing! Thanks for the questions, well, we took IRON CURTAIN name from the cult 80’s Ohio band, DESTRUCTOR! At the same time it’s Winston Churchill speech of 1946 and usually it’s the beginning of the cold war years. The band is 16 yo now!

We are from Murcia, south of Spain, really really hot weather, we are like 4-5 driving hours to Africa. It’s a nice place to live, we have a lot of Metal, in two days IRON MAIDEN will play here… it’s the 4th times they play in our hometown.

This interview was answered listening the mighty Restless Breed of RIOT!

THE NWOTHM: How did the band form and is there any interesting story surrounding its formation?

I.C: Well, to be honest, nothing very special haha, maybe like 90%, just passion and young dreams to play with friends, get drunk and record some tunes!. Between 2000-05 I was trying to form a band and was in 2006 when I found Cabo, the first drummer of the band, we started to play together in his cellar, one year later we got a rehearsal room, we took the band’s name and work hard… and drink hard too hahaha.

THE NWOTHM: Since the bands formation what big milestones have you achieved? 

THE NWOTHM: Can you tell us any fun/ interesting facts about the members of the band?

I.C: Hahaha, I’m teacher in High School, another one is working in a warehouse, another is workman… We are normal people that works, pay the bills, with family, children…. Maybe it’s not very interesting don’t you?? Hahaha. Besides that we are Metalheads as fuck, music die hard maniacs. 

THE NWOTHM: What bands and artists have influenced you and helped you to carve your sound?

I.C: Hundreds of them!, Motörhead, Destructor, Venom, Running Wild, Tank, Grave Digger, old Metallica, old Slayer every note of Iron Maiden hahaha…. We like classic UK 82 punk scene, GBH, Discharge, The Exploited…. 70’s Hard Rock…. 

We worship the NWOBHM bands, the US Metal Scene and of course the EU Heavy Metal. Besides that the Eastern Heavy Metal bands like Pokolgep, Ossian, Kalapacs, Metal Lady, Rotor, Citron…. Are another nail in our sound…. ULTRA HEAVY METAL ATTACK 

THE NWOTHM: Can you tell us about your most recent release(s) and any background information to the music? How did the songs come about?

I.C: Our last recording is Metal Gladiator EP. 4 brand new songs + 3 “old” songs including some friends of bands like RAM, Gorgon/Metalucifer and Metal Inquisitor.

This songs are fresh air, it’s a back to the roots, back to basic, back to speed, aggression sound, more powerful. After our last LP “Danger Zone” we were very uncomfortable with the sound so the Gladiator EP is the answer.

THE NWOTHM: What shows have you got coming up for 2023? Any major performances you would like to highlight?

I.C: This ’23 we played in great festivals and shows like Pounding Metal in Madrid, Metal Bats in Valencia, Dying Victimcs Festival in Essen (Germany) and at Rock Imperium with KISS, Deep Purple, Europe…. This one was a festival with 20.000 people, but probably no more than 5% of Metalheads…. 😦 

THE NWOTHM: Any other plans for 2023? With it being a new year, what do you hope to achieve in the upcoming months?

I.C: We are always working. We have finished our new record “Savage Dawn” it will be out around 2024 and we can promise one thing, it gonna KICK YOUR ASS!!!!! Best record till date.

Besides that shows we have a couple more in Barcelona, Jaen in the second half of the year. 

This Fall we will record few more songs for a few more splits and releases. Working hard is the key!!!
