INTERVIEW: COBRAKILL (GERMANY)

There are some killer metal bands from Germany and one band that delivers both the bite and venom is none other than Cobrakill! Formed in the midst of the pandemic, the band sailed on through and released their debut full length album titled Cobratör last year! Now in 2023 the band the band is in full swing and has plenty lined up ahead!

THE NWOTHM: Hey there Cobrakill! Can you start by introducing us to the band, who the members are and where you are from?

C.K: Cobrakill is a kick ass Heavy Metal/Hard Rock Band from the Teutonic
Woods of Germany. Lead vocals by Nick Adams, lead guitar by Randy White (me)
rhythm guitar by Tommy Gun, bass guitar by Crippler Ramirez and percussions by Toby Ventura and Nick and I are the songwriters. I write the instrumental versions and name
most of the songs. Nick writes most of the lyrics and vocal rhythm lines, with which I help Nick sometimes.

THE NWOTHM: The classic question! How did you form and where did the band name come from? You have only been around a view years!

C.K: We are a German Heavy Metal and Hard Rock Band. Most band members
are from the county Lippe in Northrhine Westphalia. Crippler Ramirez lives in
the Ruhrpott and Nick Adams is currently living in Cologne. Our band/
rehearsal room is in Bielefeld because it’s easy for everyone to get there.
And yes, Cobrakill was formed in 2020 by me ( Randy White). At first,
Cobrakill was a studio project and after one year, I felt like it was time to play
live. Unfortunately there were quite a few problems that led to line up
changes due to some of the musicians having ego problems or not practicing
hard enough to be able to play their instruments. 😀

THE NWOTHM: You band name is awesome. How did you guys choose the band name?

C.K: Thank you! My wife came up with the band name CobraKill 😀
I found the band and my idea was a band name including “Cobra” because it
gives 80s vibes like City Cobra. So when my wife came up with the name “
CobraKill” I immediately loved it.

THE NWOTHM: Can you tell us more about your musical backgrounds?

C.K: When I started to play the guitar, I wanted to learn all those Classic Rock,
Glam Rock and Hard Rock stuff like AC/DC, Rolling Stones, T-Rex, David
Bowie, Slade, Led Zeppelin and many more. Short time later I discovered
Glam Metal and Heavy Metal. I fell in love instantly. Since I was only 16 and I was living in Germany, where hard, rough metal is way more popular than Glam, I started playing in Black Metal, Death Metal and Thrash Metal bands. In my early 20s I finally got back to my roots and started the predecessor project of Cobrakill, Dirty Connections.

THE NWOTHM: What is the metal scene like in your hometown?

C.K: There used to be a local metal scene with some bands and regular concerts
here in Lippe when I was a teen. That was a really nice time. Most of the
local bands were Thrash, Death and Black Metal Bands, and there was one
Christian Metal Band 😀 Nowadays, nothing’s going on here, as far as I know. Maybe there are still underground Metal concerts by young musicians? I really hope so!

THE NWOTHM: Which band member would you say spends the most time on their
appearance in the band?

C.K: Every one of us puts a lot of time and thoughts into the appearance since its
important for us to make a good impression that fits our music, especially as
an 80s inspired band. We’re currently figuring out new matching outfits to
improve our appearance on stage.

THE NWOTHM: What is the backstory for your self titled EP ‘Cobrakill’ the you released in 2020?

C.K: Forming a band during Covid wasn’t easy. I wrote all those songs but
struggled to find the right musicians to form a band with. That’s why I
recorded the LP with only one other band member, Cobrakill’s former lead
singer. Drums and bass lines on the LP were recorded by professional studio
musicians.

THE NWOTHM: Can you tell us an interesting fact about each of yourselves?

C.K: That’s a tough question! 😀 Nick Adams: He’s the only guy in the band that has no tattoos. Me: I’m a horror movie collector and do martial arts. Apart from that I’m
vacuum cleaning the house twice a day. Tommy Gun: His favourite band is Sisters of Mercy. Crippler Ramirez: Is NOT a Lemmy copy!!! Toby Ventura: He’s a very good cook!

THE NWOTHM: Who gets all the attention when playing shows?

C.K: None of us wants to stand out or get more attention than the others, it’s all
about the show and our performance as a band. That’s why we’re currently
working on matching outfits to improve our stage appearance and make us
even more noticeable.

THENWOTHM: If you could be any 80’s musician who would it be and why?

C.K: I think I’d be a hybrid of Nikki Sixx and Kane Roberts. Nikki Sixx is simply
the rock and metal god for me. He’s a fantastic musician and nobody
embodies the 80s, Glam Metal, Rockstar life in Hollywood more than Nikki
Sixx for me. Kane Roberts is also a big inspiration because his bodybuilder
lifestyle and Rambo gimmick makes him so special.

THE NWOTHM: As a lead up to the release of your full length album you released the song ‘Electrifier!’ Tell us more about that?

C.K: It is our catchiest song. Most of our family members and good friends
that listened to our album before it was released said “ Electrifier’s the
best song!”. That’s why we released it in advance and made the music
video to promote the upcoming album.

THE NWOTHM: Last year you released your debut full length album Cobratör ! How did you first go about choosing the name for the album?

C.K: Again my wife helped me choose the name 😀 My idea was an sci fi name and cover artwork like a mix of Blade Runner and Terminator. At the same time I wanted to somehow include the band’s Cobra gimmick, so when my wife said “ Cobrator” I was like “ Oh, Yeah. This is it!”.

THE NWOTHM: What is the backstory to the album and how did the writing and recording process go?

C.K: I wrote all instrumental parts and our former lead singer wrote some lyrics. When all the instrumental parts were recorded and it was time for our singer to record his vocals in the studio, we had to split up with him due to his personal issues at very short notice. Being left without a lead singer, we still really wanted to release that album. I contacted my former band Dirty Connections’ singer, Nick Adams. So everything has
been delayed quite a bit. Nick rewrote some of the lyrics and improved the vocal melodies and during the recording in the studio we realised that Nick fits in perfectly.

THE NWOTHM: Can you each tell us what you favourite track of the album is?

C.K: I dont have a favourite track, because I put a lot of effort in every song. I actually like all the songs and I’m really proud of my songwriting, since it took years to improve my songwriting skills to this point.

THE NWOTHM: The artwork is insane! Who is the mind behind the art?

C.K: Thank you! Hendrik Noack from Noack Artworks designed it for us!

THE NWOTHM: What are your other touring plans for 2023? Do you have any big shows you would like to highlight?

C.K: We’re looking forward to playing some nice shows in 2023. Our first foreign show’s already confirmed at Zeeltje Rock Festival in the Netherlands and we’ll be performing at the Indoor Summer Festival, which has a really great line up including bands like Hardcore Superstar, Heavens Edge, Herricane Alice, Pretty Boy Floyd and many more. Aside from that, we’ll be playing another huge festival but at this time we’re not allowed to say what festival it is because we haven’t been announced yet.

THE NWOTHM: Will you continue writing new music in 2023?

C.K: Sure man! Song writing is one of my biggest hobbies. I’m always writing new stuff and already have many ideas for a new album. Actually we’ve just finished the recordings for our second album and now we’re into mixing and mastering. We’re already really, really proud of the new album, so stay tuned! No filler, only killer songs!!!

THE NWOTHM: Where can fans purchase your music and merchandise?

C.K: Our merch is available on our Big Cartel site or on different shops from
