AN INTERVIEW WITH MEGATON SWORD (SWITZERLAND)

Drums of doom, screaming axes louder than hell, low-pitched death tones and deliverers of battle hymns from Niralet is how the band describes themselves! Sounds enticing doesn’t it? This is the one and only epic heavy metallers from Sweden, Megaton Sword!

THE NWOTHM: For those who do not know who you are, can you tell us your band name, who is in the band and where you are from?

M.S: We are Megaton Sword, an Epic Heavy Metal band from Winterthur in Switzerland. Featuring Dan Thundersteel who makes the Drums of Doom tremble. And with Chris the Axe and Seth Angel who let their battle axes scream Louder than Hell. But there are rumours that they can also melt your Heart of Steel with their play. Simon the Sorcerer conjures up the low-pitched Death Tone with his Thunderpick. And last but not least, there is Uzzy Unchained, who, wearing the Gloves of Metal, delivers the Battle Hymns from Niralet and reveals you the Secret of Steel.

THE NWOTHM: How did the band form and is there any interesting story surrounding its formation?

M.S: Uzzy, Dan and I met at an Obituary concert in 2017 and after hours of drinking beer and
philosophising about Heavy Metal, it turned out that we all felt the need to form an Epic
Metal band. A short time later I convinced my buddy Chris to join the band, even though he
wasn’t really into classic metal at all up to that point. Usually such beer ideas come to
nothing, so we are even more happy to release already our third record after less than five
years.

THE NWOTHM: Since the bands formation, what big milestones have you achieved?

M.S:The biggest thing for me is the international attention this band has already received, which
is truly not a given. We’ve all worked our tails off with other bands, but unfortunately we
could never really establish ourselves.

THE NWOTHM: Can you tell us any fun/ interesting facts about the members of the band?

M.S: There are 14 years difference between the oldest and the youngest band member.
Nevertheless, we are a sworn bunch. At our first gig I forgot to take out the standby at my amp. Since then, the others don’t let me touch any technical devices.

THE NWOTHM: What bands & artists have influenced you and helped you to carve your sound?

M.S: The biggest influences are probably Manowar, Saxon, Grand Magus, Manilla Road, Grave
Digger etc. But we also draw our influences from Extreme Metal or Classic Rock.

THE NWOTHM: Can you tell us about your most recent release(s) and any background
information to the music? How did the songs come about?

M.S: The way of working is more or less the same since the “Niralet” EP. I write the riffs and the
songs, to which Uzzy contributes the lyrics and vocal lines. The two guitarists compose the
solos. So the songs are mostly written before we even play them together for the first time
in the rehearsal room and then work on the details afterwards. The content is all about fantasy stories on the continent of Niralet, which is located on the planet Xarkahar. Each song gives a short, snapshot-like glimpse of one of these stories.

THE NWOTHM: What shows have you got coming up for 2023? Any major performances you would like to highlight?

M.S: In the meantime we have announced some shows in the first half of the year. Most of them in Germany. Especially I want to mention the first Dying Victims Attack! Festival, which is organised by our label. And of course our first smaller tour together with our buddies from Venator at the end of April/beginning of May.

THE NWOTHM: Any other plans for 2023? With it being a new year, what do you hope to
achieve in the upcoming months?

M.S: On February 24, our second album Might & Power will be released. We can hardly wait!

THE NWOTHM: Where can people check you out on social media and buy your
music/merch?

M.S:
Email: megatonsword@gmail.com
facebook: facebook.com/megatonsword
Instagram: instagram.com/hailmegatonsword
Bandcamp: bandcamp.com/megatonsword

THE NWOTHM: is there any thing else you would like to mention?

M.S: Thanks for Having us. May the Might & Power be with you!
