LA has some amazing NWOTHM bands including the likes of Intranced and Wings of Steel, but one band that is sure to blow your mind is the one and only Saber. Thenwothm.com caught up with Joel from the band, to discover more about Saber’s background and reveal what exciting news they have for 2023!

THE NWOTHM: Hey Saber thanks for agreeing to this interview! Can you start by telling our readers
where you are from and can you introduce us to the band?
SABER: Of course Rob! Thank you for being interested in the band and reaching out to us! Well my name is
Joel, the rest of the guys are Jesus, David and Steven and together we are Saber!
THE NWOTHM: How did the band form and is there any insightful story surrounding its formation?
SABER: It all came together when Steven reached out to me (Joel) with the proposition of playing covers for
his YouTube channel but it quickly turned into talks about writing our own material as we had so many
musical interests in common. I already had Jesus and David with me so it was just natural for us all to come
together and write our own music. It definitely helped that we all got along very well so it made writing so
much easier.
THE NWOTHM: Where did the band name Saber come from?
SABER: My previous band was called Stormblade so I wanted something related to a blade of some sort so I wrote out a couple of ideas and everyone loved Saber the most so that was the one that was chosen
THE NWOTHM: Since the bands formation what moments in your career would you say you are most
proud of?
SABER: Definitely finishing our album ‘Without Warning’ and being able to hold it in vinyl format. It was a dream come true. The cherry on top was realising how many people really like our music. Another would be
going on our first tour ever alongside Haunt, Traveler and Screamer, bands that we all love, and playing
Hell’s Heroes. That was such an insane festival I would definitely love to play it again.
THE NWOTHM: As a band who would you say your biggest influences have been?
SABER: Definitely bands like Judas Priest, Queensryche, Whitesnake, Blue Murder, Riot and Iron Maiden
THE NWOTHM: Where did you learn to play/ sing?
SABER: Each member in the band is self taught, we’ve worked really hard to develop our skills and we
continue to push ourselves to get better.
THE NWOTHM: If you could play with any band or musician, dead or alive who would it be and why?
SABER: John Sykes for sure! He’s my biggest influence as a guitar player. I really wish he would play shows
again but he seems to be done with the music business.
THE NWOTHM: What is the Nwothm scene like in LA? Is there any other bands from your area that
you would tell me to check out?
SABER: You gotta check out Intranced and Wings of Steel! Both bands are from LA and they’re absolutely
amazing!
THE NWOTHM: Touring is a massive part of life for any band or artist! Do you have any interesting
stories from being on the road?
SABER: Touring really showed us what the life of a musician is really like. We definitely had our ups and
downs on the road but overall it was amazing! One story I can tell you is when we played in Seattle, after we
finished our set we had a ton of people buying us drinks all night! Needless to say we had a fun time that
night. We really appreciated the fans that took care of us that night.
THE NWOTHM: The pandemic had a massive affect on the music industry! How did that affect you as
a band?
SABER: When the pandemic hit we had to stop all of our writing because we were in fear of getting sick. We
learned how to work remotely. But as soon as restrictions were loosening up we hit the ground running to
make up for lost time.

THE NWOTHM: What gives you inspiration for your lyrics?
SABER: Anything from personal events in our lives to books that I read or even movies and/or documentaries about certain subjects that I find very interesting. You never know when inspiration will strike so I’m always open to anything that will get my mind in the zone.
THE NWOTHM: Can you tell us about your most recent release ‘Without Warning’ and any
background information to the music? How did the songs come about?
SABER: Without Warning was a culmination of songs that Jesus and I had been working on for what seemed
like all of our lives. I say that because when we first met he would show me riff ideas that he had written and
I showed him mine that I had written throughout my teenage years. The songs came together almost
naturally and when Steven stepped in we knew we had something.
THE NWOTHM: Where did the idea for the ‘Without Warning’ artwork come from and who created it?
SABER: Daniel Porta from The Pit Forge created the artwork. He’s such an amazing artist. We sent him the
lyrics to the song ‘Without Warning’ and he did all the rest. The instant we saw that album cover we knew it
was the one.
THE NWOTHM: You also have two other great releases, ‘Speed Racer’ and ‘Strike of the Witch.’ Can
you tell us a little bit about those and how your sound has evolved since then?
SABER: ‘Speed Racer’ was the very first song that came together. We knew it was gonna be a good song
once we had finished writing it. As for ‘Strike of the Witch,’ that was the very first song I ever wrote and I didn’t want to release that song but the guys convinced me to do it. Trevor from Haunt was the man that really pushed me to release that song because as soon as he heard it he told me it would be a mistake not to
release it. So I caved in and very quickly realised they were right. Since those two songs we worked in
writing in the style of how we did with those two and that’s how the rest of ‘Without Warning’ was written.
THE NWOTHM: What shows have you got coming up for 2023? Will we see any big touring plans for
this year?
SABER: We don’t have shows really planned so far as we are currently planning out the final steps of writing
and recording our sophomore album, which we plan on having out later this year.
THE NWOTHM: The big question is, do you have any plans for new music in 2023?
SABER: The new album is currently in the works and I will say that our fans will be very pleased with the end result.
THE NWOTHM: Where can people check you out on social media and buy your music/merch?
